The Cave- Adventures of Robinson Crusoe!!

Instead of trying to make your life perfect, give yourself the freedom to make it an adventure, and go ever upward. We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.

Ok people, now Tobago is typically known for its majestic beaches, but how many of you know about the rich folklore and history of this tiny island. One such story is none other than the tale of Robinson Crusoe, who for today had a cave named after him. According to the lore, Robinson Crusoe's Cave - Tobago is believed to be the home of literature's most famous marooned mariner; Robinson Crusoe. The cave is a part of a network of subterranean caves that traverse the Crown Point and Store Bay area. This cave is a pre-historic fresh water course known to the Amerindians who lived in that part of the island. Access to the entrance of this cave is situated on private property.

The story is of a young and impulsive Englishman that defies his parents' wishes and takes to the seas seeking adventure. The young Robinson Crusoe is shipwrecked and castaway on a remote tropical island for 28 years, (which he calls the Island of Despair) near the mouth of the Orinoco River on 30 September 1659. Overcoming his despair, he fetches arms, tools and other supplies from the ship before it breaks apart and sinks. He builds a fenced-in habitat near a cave which he excavates.

Today this cave is accessible through the track located at Robinson Crusoe Dr, Crown point Tobago. For most persons it’s a bit of a scare to brave the gusty winds as you walk down what remains of the staircase to the cave. If you’re like me and you crave adventure, take a drive to the back of the airport and explore the magnificent Crusoe Cave. Once you’ve made it down the staircase and you make your way into the cave you get access to the natural well and pools, tucked away behind the caverns. So take the trek down to the Crusoe’s Cave and see for yourself the beauty hidden within.

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.”

Footprints in the Sand

Nested against the gentle slopes of a 450 acre tropical paradise of rare and beautiful birds, a secluded beach and pristine untouched coral reef, the Arnos Vale Estate combines its rich historic past with modern conveniences - Hotel, tennis court, water sports facility, and the beautiful Arnos Vale waterwheel Theater Restaurant. Just off-shore a pristine coral reef boasts some of the best snorkeling on the island. Formally a thriving sugar plantation, these days Arnos Vale is a tranquil retreat from the pressures of modern-day living.

For the history fanatics here’s a little segment for you; to many the village of Arnos Vale is mostly known for the rich history and culture behind it. It is the site of both the descendants of the island’s European settlers and the enslaved Africans, who worked those plantations. The Dutch established themselves in Tobago in the 16th and 17th centuries. Franklyn's estate, St. David, is an example of the ruins of a sugar estate complex. Today, its machinery is called the 'Arnos Vale Waterwheel'.
However once you’ve taken in the rich history of the village of Arnos Vale the adventure doesn’t end there.

For those seeking a little seclusion and time away from prying eyes, by taking a little drive through the nearby fishing village of Plymouth you will come to one of Tobago’s undisturbed beaches, which is also home to a magnificent reef for all the dive geeks, out there. Tobago’s reefs are ideal for visitors who want to experience Tobago’s magical underwater landscape. As you drift over a coral field, you will see a world full of color and movement. Pack a cooler or pick up some local dishes on the beach, don’t forget to pack your sunscreen for all the uninterrupted sunbathing or beach cricket, you name it this beach is the ideal spot for some friendly day time activities.

But as the old saying goes “A picture tells a thousand words”, so let these picture speak for themselves!!!.

The Inside Scoop!!

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.”

Hi, my name is Trixy and I like to believe that I live by one philosophy that is to never let any two days be the same.  I personally believe in always doing the things in life that makes you happy. For me travelling and exploring has always been a major part of who I am as a person. I have had the privilege of embodying the phrase “I Live where you Vaca”, I have gotten great joy in discovering the hidden wonders of this beautiful island of Tobago.

Sometimes you find yourself daydreaming about where you would be if you could just go anywhere, Picture white sandy beaches, friendly people and magnificent terrains that are not always visible to the naked eyes. You’ve made a perfect choice if you’ve pictured the majestic island of Tobago! Tobago is perfect for restoration: lazing on picture-perfect beaches or an escape into nature – whether silently observing the island’s diverse wildlife, or pushing your body to the limit while mountain biking or windsurfing! As a Local I am proud to say that Tobago is one of the few remaining Caribbean oases not overrun by tourism, with idyllic beaches, unspoiled rain forest, and folk traditions that have stood the test of time.

You’re familiar with the phrase "work hard and play hard": the island’s an economic powerhouse and in some ways the festival capital of the Caribbean, where business can be conducted. But then there are havens like Lover’s bay, where you can spend the weekend turtle watching, kayaking and hiking in near perfect peace. This blog is here to help you make the most of your time, by giving you the inside scoop of not only the known beaches and villas or hotels, but give you a sneak peek into the places only the natives know about.
